Written at the end of the twentieth century, one of the first novels addressing the trauma of the descendants of Holocaust survivors. Zyta Rudzka constructs the narrative from two languages: parable and intimate experience. She reveals the shortcomings of collective memory in the face of individual suffering, showing that history in the singular has much to say about the community.
"Mikveh" is also a record of growing up in a communist country and a confrontation with a love that, though imperfect, brings purification.
